Gate Three: The Mirror's Truth
Gate Three reflected not images, but truths. Its guardian showed me my own fears. Passing meant confronting my deepest doubts. I saw a vision of what The Weaver truly feared.
The air in the forest grew heavy, thick with the scent of damp earth and something else, something sharp and metallic, like lightning about to strike. Gate Two had been a shimmering haze, a whisper of things that might be. But Gate Three… Gate Three felt like a solid wall, pressing in on me. Silas walked beside me, his usual cryptic smile absent, replaced by a grim set to his jaw. The trees here were ancient, their bark gnarled like old men’s faces, and the light that filtered through the canopy was a sickly green, dappled and distorted.
"This is it, Elara," Silas murmured, his voice barely a breath against the unnerving silence. "Gate Three. It reflects not what you see, but what you *are*."
I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry. My own fears? I’d been trying so hard to push them down, to be brave, to be the person Silas needed me to be. Now, a whole gate was dedicated to them. Great.
