The Weaver's influence grew. Reality warped around us, tempting me with illusions. Silas warned me against their tricks, but the lure of ease was strong. I saw glimpses of their twisted goal.

The air shimmered. Not like heat haze on a summer road, but a more… deliberate distortion. As if someone had smudged the edges of the world with a thumb. It happened when I was reaching for my favorite book, the one with the worn leather cover and the scent of old paper. The shelf seemed to ripple, the spines of the books blurring for a split second before snapping back into sharp focus. I blinked, rubbing my eyes. Just tired, I told myself. Too much reading, not enough sleep. But it happened again later, when I was walking home from school. A familiar lamppost suddenly seemed twice as tall, then shrunk back to its normal size. A flock of pigeons, mid-flight, froze for a heartbeat, their wings locked in impossible poses before resuming their erratic dance.

These weren’t just tired eyes playing tricks. These were… glitches. Tiny tears in the fabric of what I knew to be real. And I was the only one who seemed to notice. My friends just laughed when I tried to point them out, patting my arm and telling me I needed to relax. But I couldn’t. The glitches were becoming more frequent, more pronounced. They felt like whispers, insistent and unsettling, hinting at something vast and unseen lurking just beyond the veil of ordinary life.

That’s when Silas found me. He was leaning against a crumbling stone wall near the old library, a figure etched in shadows even in the midday sun. His eyes, the color of a stormy sea, seemed to hold an ancient sadness. He’d been watching me, I realized, for a while. He knew about the glitches. He knew what they meant.
