The air around Gate Six shimmered, not with the crisp, clean energy of the previous gates, but with a tired, almost sickly haze. It clung to everything, muffling sound and dulling colors. I’d expected a challenge, a riddle, perhaps another imposing figure like the one at Gate Five. Instead, I found… sorrow.

The guardian of Gate Six was unlike any I’d encountered. It wasn’t a towering beast or a cryptic sage. It was a being of pure light, but a light that flickered, dimmed, and threatened to extinguish with every breath. It seemed to sag, its form indistinct, as if the very fabric of its existence was unraveling.

“You are Elara,” it rasped, its voice like dry leaves skittering across stone. It didn’t ask; it stated, a fact worn thin by time.
