The scent of damp earth and decaying leaves clung to Elara like a second skin. Each rustle of the undergrowth, each snap of a twig underfoot, sent a fresh wave of adrenaline through her veins. The forest, once a sanctuary, now felt like a cage, its ancient trees standing as silent, watchful sentinels, their branches like grasping fingers. She ran on instinct, a desperate, primal need to put distance between herself and the chilling memory of the Serpent’s Eye insignia, the cold gleam of their obsidian blades. The whispers of the void, once a distant echo, now seemed to press in on her, a suffocating presence.

Her lungs burned, her legs ached with a fatigue that seeped into her very bones, but still, she pushed onward. The secluded life she’d known was a fragile illusion shattered by the brutal intrusion of a world she hadn't known existed. A world of ancient lineages, of cursed bloodlines, and of those who hunted such power with a terrifying zeal. She was the last, they said. The last of the Obsidian Lineage. The words themselves felt heavy, laden with a history she couldn’t comprehend, a destiny she hadn’t asked for.

A sudden clearing opened before her, bathed in the ethereal glow of the setting sun filtering through the dense canopy. It was a small, secluded glade, carpeted with moss so thick it seemed to absorb the sound of her hurried footsteps. In the center of the clearing stood a single, ancient oak, its gnarled branches reaching towards the sky like supplicating arms. And seated at its base, as if she had grown from the very earth, was a woman.
