Chapter 4
Echoes of Obsidian
Elara discovers fragmented lore about the Obsidian Lineage. She learns of its immense power, its dark history, and the curse that has plagued its descendants for generations.
The air in the hidden chamber was thick with the dust of ages, a scent that clung to Elara’s senses like a shroud. Moonlight, strained through a fissure in the cavern ceiling far above, cast skeletal shadows across the stone walls. Here, amidst the forgotten relics of her bloodline, Elara traced the carvings with trembling fingers. They were not mere etchings; they pulsed with a faint, internal luminescence, a spectral echo of the power that flowed through her veins.
Lyra Meadowlight, her face a mask of serene intensity, watched Elara from the periphery. The old woman’s eyes, like polished river stones, seemed to absorb the dim light, reflecting nothing of the turmoil brewing within Elara. “The Obsidian Lineage,” Lyra’s voice was a low murmur, barely disturbing the silence, “is not a gift, child. It is a burden, forged in shadow and bound by sacrifice.”
Elara pulled her hand away from a carving depicting a figure wreathed in tendrils of darkness, its eyes burning with an unholy light. “But… what *is* it?” she whispered, the question a raw ache in her throat. Her life, until a few sunrises ago, had been a tapestry of quiet routines, of tending the hearth and tending the fields. Now, it was unraveling at an alarming pace, revealing threads of a power she couldn't comprehend, a legacy she was desperate to understand.
