The air in Lyra’s hidden study hung thick with the scent of dried herbs and ancient parchment. Dust motes danced in the slivers of moonlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating the worn leather of countless tomes. Elara traced the intricate patterns on the wooden table, her fingers unsteady. The weight of Lyra’s words pressed down on her, heavier than any stone. The Obsidian curse. Not a mere affliction, but a parasitic entity, woven into the very fabric of her bloodline, feeding on its power, corrupting its wielders.
“You say it’s a parasite?” Elara’s voice was a hushed whisper, barely disturbing the stillness. “It… lives within us?”
Lyra nodded, her expression grave. She sat opposite Elara, her hands clasped loosely in her lap, the faint glow of the enchanted crystals on her desk casting an ethereal light on her face. “Not precisely. It is more akin to a symbiosis, albeit one of a deeply destructive nature. The Obsidian Lineage, in its nascent stages, was a source of immense power, a conduit to… forces beyond mortal comprehension. But with that power came a hunger. A need to consume, to expand.”
