Chapter 15
A Change of Heart
The zookeeper's stern expression softens. He can no longer deny the magic Pinky has brought. The children's laughter is the most beautiful sound he's heard all day.
Mr. Grumbles, the zookeeper, stood with his arms crossed, his brow furrowed into a magnificent display of disapproval. He’d been watching, you see, from behind a particularly thorny rose bush that, frankly, was more interesting than anything Pinky had presented so far. Or so he’d thought. But now, something was happening. The children, a whirlwind of bright colors and squealing delight, were practically vibrating with excitement. They weren’t just looking at Pinky’s… *creations*. They were *interacting*. They were giggling. They were gasping. They were pointing with unadulterated joy.
Pinky, meanwhile, was in her element. She had just unveiled the “Sparkle-Snout Slinky.” It was a creature that, according to Pinky’s enthusiastic explanation, could stretch to the length of a fire hose and glow in the dark, leaving a trail of shimmering fairy dust wherever it went. A little girl named Lily, with pigtails that defied gravity, was holding out a stick. The Sparkle-Snout Slinky, a creature of pure imagination manifested through Pinky’s vibrant energy, seemed to respond, its imaginary snout elongating, its imaginary body wiggling with delight before slinking back into its coiled form. Lily’s laughter, a tinkling cascade of pure happiness, echoed through the zoo grounds.
Then came the “Giggle-Goo Glob.” This one, Pinky explained with a wink, was a creature made entirely of happy thoughts and sticky, sweet goo. When it wobbled, it made a sound like a hundred tiny bells being rung by a flock of ticklish butterflies. A boy named Tom, who had initially looked a bit skeptical, was now tentatively poking at the air where Pinky indicated the Giggle-Goo Glob resided. He let out a surprised yelp, then a hearty laugh. “It *tickled* my finger!” he exclaimed, his eyes wide with wonder.
