The air in the cavern hummed with an energy that Fabian couldn’t quite place. It wasn't the sterile thrum of the Overlord ships, nor the desperate, crackling static of human comms. This was older, deeper, a resonance that vibrated in his bones. Xylar, their iridescent skin shifting through hues of amethyst and obsidian, regarded him with eyes that held the depth of nebulae. The chamber itself was a marvel, carved from a crystal that seemed to drink the dim light, refracting it into a kaleidoscope of colors. It felt less like a meeting room and more like the heart of a sleeping god.

"You understand the terms, Fabian," Xylar’s voice was a silken whisper, each syllable laced with an ancient weariness. It wasn't a question, but a statement, a final confirmation before the ink, or whatever passed for it in this realm, was dried.

Fabian nodded, his gaze steady, betraying none of the tremor that ran through his core. He understood perfectly. Information for technology. A strategic advantage for his burgeoning power. It was a simple exchange, one he’d rehearsed in his mind a thousand times since the initial, terrifying encounter. He had offered Xylar knowledge of Overlord patrol routes, of the nascent weaknesses he’d observed in their formations, data gleaned from countless hours in his virtual world that now held terrifying, tangible weight. In return, Xylar had produced a device, sleek and impossibly smooth, that pulsed faintly in the alien’s delicate hand.
