The hum of the refrigerator was usually a comforting drone, a familiar soundtrack to my late-night snack raids. Tonight, though, it felt… amplified. Or maybe it was just the silence that followed, a silence so thick it seemed to press in on me from all sides. I’d stayed up late, replaying the inexplicable accuracy of the Navigator’s Game in my head. That late goal in the fictional soccer match, the exact score of the table tennis championship – it was too much to dismiss as coincidence. I pulled the curtain shut, the fabric a flimsy shield against the unseen eyes I now felt on me. Was it the game? Had my playing it, my *understanding* of its predictions, somehow broadcast my presence? The thought sent a shiver down my back. My grandparent’s attic, a place of dusty memories and forgotten treasures, had suddenly become the nexus of something I couldn't comprehend.
