Secret Keeper
Alex sets up a cozy spot for Felix in his room, sharing snacks and stories. Coco happily guards the door, a loyal protector of their incredible secret.
Alex tiptoed into his bedroom, his heart thumping a frantic rhythm against his ribs like a trapped bird. Behind him, shuffling with a soft, scaly shuffle, came Felix. The dragon, usually so magnificent and grand, seemed smaller now, almost shy, his magnificent blue and purple scales shimmering faintly in the dim light filtering through the curtains. He kept his head low, his pale blue eyes wide and a little anxious as they scanned the unfamiliar surroundings.
“It’s okay, Felix,” Alex whispered, his voice raspy with a mixture of excitement and a healthy dose of nerves. “This is my room. It’s safe here.”
Coco, who had trotted happily beside them all the way from the back door, gave a soft, reassuring whine and nudged Felix’s leg with her wet nose. The dragon’s long neck dipped, and he nudged her back gently, a rumble like distant thunder vibrating in his chest. It was a sound Alex was beginning to understand meant contentment.
