Chapter 6
Felix's Grand Entrance
There, basking in a sunbeam, is the dragon from the book! Alex is awestruck. The dragon, with his pale blue eyes, seems gentle. Alex decides to bring him home.
The air in the forest grew thick with an anticipation that tickled Alex’s nose like the scent of pine needles after a spring rain. He had followed the winding path, his heart thrumming a steady rhythm against his ribs, a rhythm that echoed the beat of adventure. Coco, her tail a blur of happy excitement, trotted faithfully by his side, her small paws kicking up fallen leaves with every playful bound. They had explored the left path, which had led them to the delightful surprise of Coco herself, and then the right path, which had offered only a tangle of thorny bushes and a grumpy badger. Now, all that remained was the path straight ahead, the one that seemed to beckom with a silent promise.
“This is it, Coco,” Alex whispered, his voice a low hum of excitement. “The last path. I have a feeling about this one.” Coco, as if understanding every word, nudged his hand with her wet nose and gave a soft, encouraging yap.
The trees here grew taller, their branches interwoven like the gnarled fingers of ancient giants. Sunlight dappled through the canopy in shifting patterns, painting the forest floor with dancing mosaics of light and shadow. The deeper they went, the quieter the forest became, the usual chirping of birds and rustling of unseen creatures fading into a hushed stillness. It was the kind of quiet that felt pregnant with secrets, a silence that waited to be broken.
