Chapter 11
The Unwritten Night
The speaker and Dusk step through the thread of darkness into a void where they encounter the infant self—the part that knows no day, which has been denied and blamed. By listening without judgment, the speaker allows this self to speak its first word, learning that defeat is not an end but a beginning. The chapter ends with a new door formed from the infant's first word, leading deeper into the self.

Not the absence of seeing—I could see more clearly than ever—but the absence of the kind of light that shapes things into names and stories. This was light before it became light, the raw material of dawn, the infancy of every sunrise.
‘Where are we?’ Dusk’s voice was a ripple in still water, each word a small stone dropped into a world that had never known sound.
