Chapter 7
Fragments of Remembrance
The lost memory of their first encounter begins to surface in Elara's mind, fragmented yet powerful. She sees Kaelen not as a stranger, but as the love she had lost to time and fae trickery.
The world, once a vibrant tapestry woven with the threads of Elara’s imagination, had frayed into a dull, monochrome expanse. Her writer’s block was a suffocating shroud, each blank page a mocking testament to her failing muse. She stared at the cursor, a tiny, pulsing heart on the screen, and felt nothing. No spark, no whisper of a story, no echo of the grand romances she was known for crafting. It was as if the wellspring of her creativity had not merely dried up, but had been irrevocably poisoned.
Then, he had appeared. Kaelen. Prince of the cursed Fae, his eyes the colour of a stormy sea, and a sadness etched so deeply into his soul it seemed to emanate from him like a chilling mist. He had offered a bargain, a temptation too potent to resist for a woman desperate to feel *something* again. Her most cherished memory, he had said, in exchange for the undoing of his curse. A curse that bound him in a prison of his own making, a heart rendered incapable of love.
She had agreed. A foolish, reckless act born of desperation. She had offered him the memory of her first love, a memory so tender, so achingly beautiful, she had guarded it for years. The scent of rain-soaked earth, the nervous flutter of a young heart, the shy touch of hands – it had been the genesis of her romantic sensibilities, the very foundation upon which she had built her literary empire. And she had given it away.
