The chill that had settled in Elara’s bones was not entirely from the encroaching twilight. It was a deeper, more profound cold, a stark absence that had taken root where something vibrant and warm had once resided. Kaelen stood before her, the moonlight catching the sharp angles of his face, making him appear carved from ice and shadow. His eyes, those unsettling pools of twilight, held a sorrow that seemed as ancient as the mountains.

"You trade in memories, little scribe," he said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated in the still air. "You seek inspiration, a spark to ignite your dormant words. I offer you a solution, a path back to the stories that once flowed from your fingertips."

Elara hugged herself, the worn fabric of her shawl doing little to ward off the internal frost. "You spoke of a curse," she whispered, the words feeling brittle, like dried leaves about to crumble. "A blight upon your being."
