The air in the small, sterile room was thick with the scent of antiseptic and a silence that pressed in on all sides, heavier than any physical weight. Wesley lay against the crisp white sheets, his breath shallow, a ragged rhythm against the low hum of machinery. Outside, the world spun on, oblivious to the quiet unraveling within these walls, a world he had only just begun to truly see.

It had started with fragmented memories, echoes of words spoken in hushed tones, images that flickered at the edge of his consciousness like faulty bulbs. Then came the hushed conversations he’d overheard, the furtive glances, the way his “father” would flinch when Wesley spoke of his mother, Amy, with a fierce, protective love he couldn’t explain.
