Using their combined knowledge and Paul's hidden artifact, they attempt to disrupt the Molly Queenie's influence, a confrontation that will either save them or seal their fate.
The television screen flickered, casting a pale, wavering light across the faces of Paul, Lilly, and Kevin. Outside, the snow continued its relentless descent, muffling the world in a shroud of white. The news anchor’s voice, usually a steady drone of familiar concerns, now carried a tremor of something akin to panic. Images flashed across the screen: children, their eyes vacant, their movements jerky, a shadow of humanity clinging to them like a tattered cloak. And then, the vines. A sickeningly vibrant tapestry of crimson and rose, strangling trees, creeping across forgotten roads, their tendrils pulsing with an unnatural life.
“—reports continue to flood in from across the continent,” the anchor stammered, her carefully constructed composure fraying at the edges. “The creatures, as they’ve come to be known, exhibit unprecedented aggression. Witnesses describe them as… as unnatural. Moving on four limbs, with limbs like sharpened blades, capable of…” Her voice caught. A grainy, shaky photograph appeared, a blur of motion and terror. A face, impossibly triangular, with gaping maws that were more void than mouth. “They attack with terrifying speed, impaling their victims before… before burrowing inside. Consuming them from within. Controlling them.”
Kevin, his knuckles white where he clutched Lilly’s arm, whimpered. “Lilly, I don’t like this.”
