Ran traced the rough, damp bark of the ancient oak, her fingers, once soft and supple, now coarse and calloused, tipped with what felt like hardened clay. The forest floor, a carpet of decaying leaves and moss, cushioned her steps, a stark contrast to the jarring, almost painful awareness of her own altered form.
