“You are our light, Amani,” he murmured, his voice thick with unshed tears. The scent of jasmine, once so sweet, was now tinged with the coppery tang of blood and the metallic scent of fear. She could feel the amulet’s power ebbing, a fading ember against the encroaching night. But even as her own strength waned, a different kind of power bloomed within her – the fierce, unyielding love she held for this village, for these people, for Mihail.
