The air crackled, thick with the acrid scent of fear and the lingering sweetness of jasmine. Amani stood, a lone beacon against the encroaching darkness, the amulet a warm weight in her palm. Mihail’s steady presence beside her was a silent promise, his dark hair a stark contrast to the pale moonlight, his blue eyes burning with a fierce resolve. The villagers, a huddled mass of apprehension, looked to her, their faces etched with a desperate hope.

“You think you can protect them, little girl?” Vladislaus’s voice, a silken hiss, cut through the charged silence. Amani’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the gnawing fear. But as she met Vladislaus’s gaze, something shifted within her. The amulet pulsed against her skin, a surge of warmth spreading through her veins, chasing away the chill of his words. This was her home, her people. She would not stand by and watch them be consumed. “I will protect my home,” she declared, her voice ringing with a newfound authority that surprised even herself. “And I will not let you destroy it.”
