The air in the glade hung thick and still, a velvet curtain drawn against the encroaching night. Elara stood at its edge, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs. The scent of damp earth and unseen blossoms filled her lungs, a fragrance both familiar and tinged with an ancient, unsettling magic. Midnight. The hour of the prophecy, the hour of the bloom.
