The polished chrome of the conference table gleamed under the sterile overhead lights, reflecting the strained faces of Lena Hanson and Dr. Aris Thorne. Around them sat a tableau of sharp suits and even sharper skepticism. Marcus Bellweather, the titan of venture capital whose name was whispered with a mixture of awe and apprehension, steepled his fingers, his gaze unblinking.
“So,” Bellweather began, his voice smooth as polished marble, “you’re proposing to… eat the ocean’s plastic?” He offered a thin smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “And then… turn it into oil? Using… what, exactly? Magic?”
Lena felt a familiar tightening in her chest, a sensation she’d learned to push down, to channel into a calm, unwavering smile. “Not magic, Mr. Bellweather. Physics. And biology, in a way. We’ve developed a process, the Hydro-Catalytic Conversion, that leverages the immense pressure of the deep sea to generate clean energy. This energy, in turn, powers a proprietary system that breaks down microplastics into their constituent hydrocarbons – essentially, crude oil.”
