Chapter 18
The Cosmic Crucible
Deagan prepares for the crucial task. He must channel energy or perform an action that will stabilize the cosmic balance, a task he barely comprehends but must undertake.

Deagan moved through the sterile corridors, each step echoing with a purpose he was still struggling to define. Mars, with its rusted plains and silent canyons, felt a lifetime away, a ghost of a mission completed under a sky that, for all its alienness, had been predictable. They pulsed with a soft, internal light, a language of pure energy that somehow, inexplicably, he understood. It was the language of the Collective, the ancient consciousness that had reached out to him, a silent cry across the vastness of space.
"Are you ready, Deagan?" The voice, if it could be called that, resonated not in his ears, but directly within his mind. It was a symphony of a million whispers, a chorus of ages, yet it coalesced into a single, clear thought.
