The crimson dust of Mars, once a symbol of triumph, now felt like a shroud. Deagan stood on the precipice of a decision, the weight of two worlds pressing down on his shoulders. The Mercury Collective, a symphony of whispers and ancient thoughts, had laid bare the truth, or at least a sliver of it. A cosmic tapestry, they called it, and he, Deagan, was a thread inexplicably pulled from his intended weave.

“You understand the gravity of this, Deagan,” the collective's voice, a chorus of ethereal tones, resonated not in his ears, but within the very marrow of his bones. It was a sensation both intimate and alien, a violation of the solitary nature of his existence. He clenched his fists, the rough texture of his spacesuit a grounding anchor in the swirling vortex of his mind.

“Gravity,” he echoed, his voice a dry rasp in the sterile confines of his helmet. “You speak of gravity, and yet you pull me across the void on a current of… what? Thought? Desire?” He gestured vaguely towards the viewport, where the colossal, scarred face of Mercury loomed, a stark contrast to the familiar, dusty plains of Mars. “I was sent to Mars. My mission was clear. My duty was to Earth.”
