The rain, a persistent, soft drumming against the windowpane, mirrored the quiet rhythm of Elias’s thoughts. He sat in his usual spot, a worn armchair tucked into the corner of his small studio, the keyboard before him a familiar landscape of keys. The scent of old paper and the faint, ozone tang of electronics filled the air, a comforting perfume that clung to him like a second skin. He’d been lost in a new melody, a cascade of notes that spoke of twilight and distant stars, when the insistent buzz of his phone had jolted him back to the present. It was Abigail.

Her name, when it flashed across the screen, brought a peculiar mix of apprehension and a grudging curiosity.
