For weeks, it had been my constant companion, broken only by the clipped, professional tones of Mission Control and the occasional rustle of my own movements within the cramped confines of the *Odyssey*. I’d grown accustomed to the infinite blackness outside the viewport, the distant, indifferent glitter of stars. It was a profound, almost spiritual solitude, a complete shedding of the earthly cacophony. I’d even found a strange comfort in it, a clarity that only absolute isolation could provide. The worn photograph of my grandmother, tucked deep in my flight suit pocket, was my anchor, a tangible link to the world I’d left behind, and to the dreams she’d ignited in me with her stories of constellations.
