Nathan faces the man's final trick as his mother and Daniel arrive at the park. With Owen's help, he races home to break the mirror's power before the man can finish stealing his life.
Nathan's mother stopped the car at the curb. Daniel got out first, his face blank, his movements stiff—like a puppet whose strings were still being learned. She followed, her eyes fixed on Nathan with an expression he had never seen before: not anger, not worry, but recognition, as though she were seeing a version of him that no longer existed.
"Nathan," she said. Her voice was calm, but it wavered at the edges. "Come home. We need to talk."
Owen stepped between them. "Mrs. Chen, wait. Something's wrong."
