Chapter 4
Chapter 4: The Secret of the Garden
From Grandma's perspective, she discovers the well's secret in her garden, learns of Lily's journey to Aviara, and is visited by the Oracle, who reveals that Lily must choose between her world and Aviara, binding Grandma to help her granddaughter.
Grandma sat in her rocking chair by the window, her hands folded over a cup of tea that had long gone cold. The sun had set hours ago, painting the sky in shades of amber and violet, but Lily had not returned. The garden was silent, save for the rustle of leaves in the evening breeze, and the old well stood like a dark sentinel, its stone rim worn smooth by time.
She had called for Lily at dinner, her voice echoing through the empty rooms. She had searched the house, the garden, even the dusty attic where cobwebs hung like ghostly curtains. But the girl was gone, vanished as if the earth had swallowed her whole.
Now, as the stars began to prick the darkness, Grandma felt a cold knot tighten in her chest. She set down the cup and rose, her bones creaking, and walked to the window that overlooked the garden. The well was there, a shadow among shadows, and as she stared, she saw something she had not noticed before: a faint, silvery light glimmering from its depths, like a star trapped in the earth.
