Chapter 7
Farewell, Colorful Friend
Colton, filled with gratitude, bids a tearful goodbye. He steps through the shimmering portal, returning to his home world. Cole and Colin watch him go, cherishing the magical adventure and their unique friendship.
The air hummed with a silent symphony of anticipation. The portal, a swirling vortex of amethyst and gold, pulsed gently before them, a beacon in the fading twilight. It shimmered like a puddle of spilled rainbow, smelling faintly of sunshine and something Cole couldn’t quite place – perhaps the scent of distant, unknown flowers. Colin, her eyes wide as saucers, clutched Cole’s hand, her fingers cool against his. Colton, nestled in Cole’s palm, felt strangely lighter, as if the magic that bound him to this world was already beginning to loosen its grip.
“It’s time, isn’t it?” Cole whispered, his voice a little shaky. He looked down at Colton, his heart a complicated knot of sadness and excitement. He’d grown so used to the smooth, cool feel of the art stick, to the gentle glow it cast when he was lost in thought. Colton had become more than just a magical object; he was a friend, a confidant, a silent witness to their wildest dreams.
Colton’s surface, usually a vibrant tapestry of shifting colors, seemed to soften, the hues deepening into a warm, honeyed glow. A faint hum emanated from him, a sound that resonated deep within Cole’s chest. It wasn't a sound that could be heard with ears, but rather felt with the soul. *“Yes, Cole,”* the familiar, gentle presence echoed in their minds, tinged with a profound gratitude. *“The gateway is open. My world awaits.”*
