Colin traced the swirling patterns on Colton’s smooth, cool surface. They weren’t just random squiggles; they were intricate, like tiny maps or secret codes. Cole, ever the patient older brother, leaned in, his brow furrowed in concentration. They had spent the better part of the afternoon sitting beneath the sprawling branches of the Whispering Willow, its leaves rustling like secrets shared on the wind. The willow had spoken, as it always did, in a series of rustles and sighs, offering them a riddle that had sent them back to the drawing board, or rather, the drawing stick.

“It’s like… like a secret language,” Colin murmured, her finger following a particularly bright, almost iridescent line. It shimmered with a faint, internal light, a stark contrast to the matte finish of the rest of Colton. “Look, Cole. This bit here,” she pointed to a cluster of dots that seemed to glow with their own captured starlight, “it looks like… like the Big Dipper!”

Cole blinked. He hadn’t noticed it before, too focused on the overall shape and the general flow of the markings. But now that Colin pointed it out, it was unmistakable. A familiar pattern, etched onto an alien artifact. He reached out and touched the dots, a strange warmth radiating from them. “You’re right, Colin! It really does. And this one,” he traced another line that curved gracefully, “looks like Orion’s Belt!”
