The Oracle's Riddle
Seeking answers, they find an ancient oracle who speaks in riddles. The oracle's cryptic pronouncements hint at Elara's hidden lineage and the Bloom's true purpose.
The air in the chamber was thick with the scent of dust and something else, something ancient and potent, like dried herbs and forgotten spells. It clung to my lungs, a heavy cloak woven from centuries of silence. Kael stood beside me, his usual stoic posture a little more rigid, his eyes scanning the shadowed alcoves of the hidden sanctuary. We had followed the cryptic map etched onto the back of my grandmother’s locket, a journey that had led us far from the familiar, dusty halls of my study and into a place that felt as though it had slumbered since the dawn of time.
Before us, seated upon a simple, unadorned stone throne, was the Oracle. She was not what I had imagined. No ethereal glow, no flowing robes of celestial silk. Instead, she was a woman of indeterminate age, her face a roadmap of fine wrinkles, her eyes the colour of a stormy sea, sharp and unnervingly perceptive. Her hair, a cascade of silver threaded with moonlight, was bound loosely with a simple leather thong. She wore coarse, undyed wool, and her hands, gnarled with age, rested placidly in her lap.
“You seek answers,” her voice was a low murmur, like pebbles shifting in a riverbed, yet it filled the cavernous space with an undeniable authority. It held no inflection, no emotion, merely a statement of fact.
