Beside him, Lyra moved with a quiet grace, her gaze often turned inward, as if deciphering a language only she could hear. They were a unit, forged in the crucible of shared hardship, yet Kael felt an invisible barrier between himself and them, a wall built of his own unspoken doubts.

The prophecy. The word itself tasted like ash in his mouth. It spoke of chosen ones, of a great quest, of a world teetering on the brink. But Kael saw only the relentless demands, the constant peril, the gnawing fear that they were woefully unprepared. He was a warrior, trained in the art of combat, in the swift and decisive application of force. He understood the tangibility of a blade, the satisfying thud of steel meeting flesh. But this quest… it dealt in intangibles, in faith and hope and spectral horses. He understood duty, the unyielding call to protect, to serve. Yet, the prophecy felt less like a call and more like a leash, dragging them towards a fate they hadn't chosen, a fate that promised more pain than glory.

“Are you alright, Kael?” Lyra’s voice, soft as falling snow, broke through his reverie. Her eyes, the color of a twilight sky, held a gentle concern that always managed to pierce his defenses.
