The stark white of the Frostfang Peaks had melted away, replaced by a shimmering, ochre expanse that stretched to a horizon that seemed to waver and distort, as if viewed through heated air. They had descended from the icy heights, the biting wind replaced by a dry, oppressive heat that seemed to suck the moisture from their very bones. This was the Whispering Sands, a place spoken of only in hushed tones, a desert where the sun baked the earth into a mirage of impossible truths.

"Are you certain this is the way, Lyra?" Kael's voice was rough, his hand instinctively resting on the hilt of his sword. His usual pragmatic demeanor was strained, the vast emptiness of the desert unnerving him more than any mountain pass. The glittering heat rising from the sand played tricks on the eyes, making distant rock formations appear to swim and shimmer like water.

Lyra, her brow furrowed in concentration, nodded slowly. Her eyes, usually so clear and steady, darted around, seeking something unseen. "The ancient texts spoke of a land where the sky weeps and the earth breathes deception. I believe this is it. The Lumina Steed's path is rarely straightforward." Her voice, though soft, carried a conviction that Kael, despite his unease, couldn't dismiss.
