The air in Veridia’s grand plaza thrummed with an energy that felt both ancient and alive. Sunlight, filtered through the colossal emerald domes, cast shifting mosaics of green across the polished stones. Water, cascading from impossibly high aqueducts, sang a constant, soothing melody that mingled with the hushed murmurs of the city’s inhabitants. Yet, for Elara, Finn, and Lyra, the beauty of Veridia was overshadowed by the looming challenge. They stood before the northernmost gate, a colossal archway carved from what looked like solidified moonlight, guarded by two figures whose forms shimmered like heat haze against the frigid air.

These were not the stoic soldiers or impassive sentinels they might have expected. Instead, they were ethereal beings, their outlines indistinct, their faces a blur of shifting colours that mirrored the aurora borealis itself. One pulsed with the vibrant greens and blues of a twilight sky, while the other glowed with the fiery reds and violets of a dawn breaking over ice. They were the Keepers of the Aurora, ancient guardians whose task was to ensure only those truly worthy could venture further into the sacred northern reaches, the very domain of the Lumina Steed.

Finn, ever the first to break the silence, took a step forward, his hand instinctively going to the hilt of his sturdy hunting knife. “Right then,” he declared, his voice echoing slightly in the vast space. “Let’s get this over with. What’s the password, or do we have to fight you?”
