The world, as I understood it, was a magnificent tapestry woven with sunshine, giggles, and Leo’s dazzling smile. And I, Lily, was its chief weaver, my tiny hands diligently threading every available ray of happiness through the intricate pattern of our shared existence. Or at least, that’s how it felt before I accidentally stumbled upon Leo’s secret sorrow.
It all started, as most important discoveries do, with a rogue crayon. We were in the art corner, a glorious explosion of paper scraps and half-finished masterpieces, engaged in the noble pursuit of coloring a picture of a cat that looked suspiciously like a lopsided potato. Leo, bless his easy-going heart, had the whole box of crayons spread out before him, a rainbow of possibilities. I, naturally, was focused on the very best shade of sky blue for my potato-cat’s imaginary window.
