Conflicting Desires
The sisters begin subtly vying for Jason's attention. Each tries to impress him in her own way, leading to awkward and comedic situations as they try to outdo each other.
The air in the sprawling new house felt thick with unspoken things, a palpable tension that had settled in the wake of Jason’s arrival. He’d been trying his best, offering smiles, asking about their days, even attempting to engage in conversation beyond the weather. It was like trying to chip away at granite with a toothpick. Seraphina, ever the stoic, offered polite, curt responses, her gaze often fixed on a book or some intricate embroidery. Aurora, on the other hand, was a whirlwind of performative charm, peppered with pointed questions that seemed designed to gauge his reactions. Luna, bless her shy heart, mostly communicated through fleeting glances and the occasional blush that bloomed across her cheeks when he happened to meet her eye. And Celeste… Celeste was a force of nature, a tiny, insistent dynamo who’d already declared him her personal project, flitting around him with an unnerving intensity.
Today, however, the subtle undercurrents of competition seemed to be bubbling a little closer to the surface. It started, innocently enough, at the breakfast table. Jason, still navigating the complexities of communal meals, had mentioned his struggle with a particular calculus problem.
“It’s just… the integration by parts is just not clicking,” he’d sighed, pushing a stray piece of toast around his plate.
