Chapter 14
A Familiar Scent
As the humans try to help Pinky, a faint, familiar scent drifts on the wind. Pinky's nose twitches. Could it be...?
The wind, usually a playful companion, now seemed to whisper secrets Pinky couldn’t quite decipher. It ruffled the soft fur on her head, tickling the edges of her pink bow, and carried with it the scent of the sea, of ice, and… something else. Something familiar. Pinky’s small, black nose twitched, her whiskers quivering with a sudden, intense curiosity. She lifted her head, tilting it this way and that, trying to catch the elusive aroma.
Beside her, the kind humans, their faces etched with a gentle concern that Pinky was beginning to understand, watched her intently. They had offered her soft, warm cloth to rest on, and even a small, sweet berry that had tasted surprisingly good. They spoke in soft, rumbling tones, sounds that didn’t quite form words Pinky knew, but their intent felt clear: they wanted to help. One of them, a tall one with a beard as white as snow, reached out a hand, not to grab, but to offer a gentle pat. Pinky, usually so shy, found herself leaning into the touch, the warmth a small comfort in her vast, confusing world.
But that scent! It was like a thread pulling at her memory, a forgotten melody surfacing from the depths of her mind. It smelled of home, of soft snow, of the warm, comforting presence of her mother. Her little ears perked up, swiveling like tiny radar dishes. She took a tentative step forward, then another, her gaze fixed on the horizon where the ice met the sky.
