Chapter 11
A Kind Gesture
One of the humans, a woman with a warm smile, offers Pinky a comforting gesture. Pinky, though wary, senses no threat from these beings.
The biting wind, which had seemed like an exciting new adventure moments ago, now felt sharp and cold against Pinky’s fur. She shivered, not just from the chill, but from a growing knot of loneliness in her fluffy belly. The world, which had been so full of the thrill of the chase, now stretched out in a vast, white expanse that felt overwhelmingly empty. She missed the familiar scent of her mother, the soft warmth of their den, and most of all, the comforting weight of her teddy bear nestled beside her. She let out a small, wavering whimper, a sound swallowed by the immense silence of the Arctic.
Suddenly, a new sound pricked her ears. It was a soft, rhythmic crunching, different from the wind or the distant creak of ice. Pinky’s ears twitched, and her little pink nose wiggled, trying to catch a scent. It wasn’t the familiar, comforting smell of snow and sea, but something else… something warm and strange. Cautiously, she peered around a towering ice ridge.
There, standing on the snow, were two figures unlike anything she had ever seen. They were tall, much taller than her mother, and covered in thick, colorful coverings that seemed to defy the cold. They moved slowly, their boots sinking slightly into the snow, and they made soft, murmuring sounds to each other. One of them, a creature with hair the color of the setting sun and eyes as blue as the deepest ice, stopped and pointed in Pinky’s direction.
