He decides to let her play her hand, intentionally leaking a piece of false information regarding the estate's security codes to see if she takes the bait.

The quiet hum of the manor had always been a symphony of Julian’s making, a meticulously orchestrated arrangement of ticking clocks, rustling paper, and the soft thud of his own measured footsteps. But lately, a new note had been introduced, a bright, almost insistent melody that was entirely Callie’s. It wasn’t the hesitant, slightly clumsy tune of her first days here, nor the tentative melody of her growing comfort. This was a crescendo, a dazzling display of efficiency that frankly, unnerved him.

She’d always been diligent, of course. That was part of her initial appeal, the veneer of earnestness I’d carefully cultivated. But this… this was different. Her arrival had been a gentle pressure, a slow tightening of the screws, designed to see how she’d buckle. And she hadn’t buckled. Instead, she’d shifted, transforming from a wilting flower into a remarkably resilient vine, wrapping herself around the very structure I’d built to contain her.

Now, she moved with a speed and precision that bordered on alarming. Papers that had been scattered were neatly filed, appointments logged with an almost psychic foresight, even the silver polish seemed to gleam with an extra, defiant shine. It was too much, too fast, too perfectly executed. It spoke of a mind working at lightning speed, not merely accommodating my commands but anticipating them, even, dare I admit it, redirecting them.
