Barnaby’s tail, which had been wagging a merry rhythm against the soft, marshmallow ground, suddenly stilled. A sharp pang of worry shot through him, colder than any fizzy river he’d encountered. His favorite squeaky toy, the bright red, slightly chewed one that made the most satisfying *squeak* when he nudged it with his nose, was gone. He’d been so busy marveling at a particularly dazzling cluster of lollipop flowers, their translucent petals catching the light like stained glass, that he hadn’t noticed them. He whined, a low, questioning sound, and nudged the spot where he was sure he’d left it. Nothing. He sniffed the air, his sensitive nose twitching, but the sweet, sugary scent of Rainbow Bubble Land was too overwhelming, too full of distractions.
