The wind howled like a hungry wolf outside the workshop, a mournful sound that seeped through the thick walls and into the hearts of the elves. Inside, the air crackled with an anxiety that had nothing to do with the usual pre-Christmas Eve bustle. Toys lay scattered, half-wrapped presents teetered precariously, and the scent of gingerbread seemed to have lost its usual cheer.
