The endless blue stretched out before me, a familiar blanket I had known for as long as I could remember. It was a good blue, a kind blue, the kind that felt like a soft hug on a breezy day. My friends, Cirrus and the others, were content to drift, to play tag with the wind, to shape-shift into fluffy bunnies and galloping horses for the giggling children far below. I’d marveled at the endless dance of its waves, how they’d surge and swell, then crash against the sandy shores with a sound that rumbled even up to my lofty perch. It was a world of constant motion, of endless stories, and I yearned to be a part of it.

Cirrus, with her delicate, feathery tendrils, would often drift close, her wispy form shimmering in the sunlight. "Nimbus, what are you looking at so intently?" she'd ask, her voice like the rustle of dry leaves. "The world below is far too busy and loud, don't you think? Here, we have peace. We have the freedom to float wherever the wind takes us."
