It was a stark contrast to the sterile, utilitarian scent of his home world, a place of pure logic and efficient design. Here, amidst the towering shelves that seemed to scrape the very heavens, he felt a strange sense of belonging, a feeling that was entirely new and disorienting. He watched Elara from across a table laden with ancient tomes, her brow furrowed in concentration as she traced the faded script of a particularly dense volume. Her small, determined movements, the way a stray strand of midnight-black hair fell across her cheek, the subtle shift of her shoulders as she sighed in frustration – these were details that lodged themselves in his nascent understanding of human emotion, bypassing his analytical processors and settling somewhere deeper, somewhere warmer.

“Anything?” he asked, his voice a low murmur that barely disturbed the hushed reverence of the library.

Elara startled, then offered a hesitant smile. “Just… more questions. It’s like trying to catch smoke. Every time I think I’m close to understanding something, it just slips away.” She gestured to the book. “My parents were studying leyline convergence patterns, specifically how they interacted with temporal anomalies. But the language is… archaic, even for Lumina.”
