The air in the Lumina Academy courtyard, usually alive with the gentle hum of ambient magic, crackled with an unfamiliar tension. Zylar, perched on a stone bench near the ancient oak, felt it first as a subtle dissonance in the Leyline’s song, a discordant note that vibrated deep within his borrowed form. Elara, sketching furiously in a worn leather-bound notebook beside him, shivered, her brow furrowed.

“Do you feel that?” she murmured, not looking up from her work. “It’s like… static electricity, but wrong.”

Zylar nodded, his internal sensors flaring. The energy signatures were faint, alien, and alarmingly close. Commander Valerius. Even from this distance, the arrogance radiating from the scout ships was palpable. They were probing, testing the academy’s defenses, no doubt assuming Lumina was the entirety of Earth’s magical might. A dangerous miscalculation.
