The air in the Lumina Academy’s deepest archives was thick with the scent of aged parchment and forgotten dust. Sunlight, strained through the arched, leaded windows, fell in dusty shafts, illuminating the hushed reverence of the space. Zylar, his borrowed human form feeling strangely out of place amidst the tangible weight of history, ran a gloved finger along the spine of a tome bound in what felt like petrified leather. Beside him, Elara’s brow was furrowed in concentration, her focus absolute as she traced the faded script of an ancient incantation.
“It’s like trying to read a dream,” she murmured, her voice barely a whisper. “The words shift, and the meaning… it’s just out of reach.”
Zylar inclined his head, his internal processors whirring. “The energy signatures are complex,” he offered, his voice a low hum that Elara had come to associate with his focused thinking. “Not unlike the residual readings from the anomalies we’ve been experiencing.”
