The air tasted like ozone and regret. Not the everyday, ‘forgot-to-buy-milk’ kind of regret, but the soul-searing, ‘accidentally-unleashed-a-dimensional-plague’ variety. It was the echo of every laugh that would never be uttered again, every song that would never be sung, every dream that would never be dreamt. My stomach churned, a sickening lurch that had nothing to do with the temporal displacement. This was *my* doing. My grand experiment, my quest to lift myself and my family out of the mud, had resulted in the literal unmaking of everything.
