The Cleaner of Catastrophes

Right, so after the whole “accidentally making myself immortal and turning the planet into a cosmic dumpster fire” thing, I figured I’d get a nice, long nap. You know, catch up on some Zs, maybe reflect on my life choices, perhaps consider taking up knitting. But apparently, the universe doesn’t do “rest and relaxation” for its screw-ups. Nope. It prefers a full-on, high-stakes, ‘clean-up-your-own-mess’ kind of deal. And who better to handle a global catastrophe than yours truly, Nathaniel Seymour, the man who tripped over reality and landed face-first in a temporal anomaly?

My new gig, as far as I could tell, was ‘Cosmic Janitor.’ My primary responsibility? Wiping up the apocalyptic mess I’d so spectacularly created. The Earth, bless its formerly green heart, was now a tapestry of cracked earth, smoldering ruins, and the occasional mutated squirrel with an attitude problem. The sky, which used to be a lovely shade of blue, had taken on a perpetual bruised-purple hue, occasionally punctuated by lightning that crackled with an unsettling, otherworldly energy. Not exactly the picturesque retirement I'd envisioned.

The first thing that struck me, aside from the pervasive smell of sulfur and regret, was the sheer *emptiness*. Where bustling cities once stood, there were now skeletal remains of buildings reaching towards the toxic heavens like desperate, bony fingers. The air was thick and heavy, making each breath a conscious effort. I found myself perched on the edge of what used to be my favorite diner, now just a pile of twisted metal and shattered dreams. The sign, miraculously still hanging by a thread, read: “Joe’s Eats – Home of the Best Milkshakes!” Oh, Joe. If only you knew.
