Leo found himself surrounded. Not by the quiet stacks of books he usually favored, but by a swirling, giggling, chattering, wonderful mess of children. The air, once filled with the hushed rustle of pages, now buzzed with the bright, clear sound of young voices, each one a tiny bell chiming with delight. It was a symphony of silliness, and Leo, who had once felt like a single, quiet note lost in the grand orchestra, now felt like he belonged.

The incident with Giggles, the runaway book character, had been the spark. Leo’s small act of kindness, helping to gather the scattered joke books, had not only earned him a hearty laugh from the mischievous sprite but had also caught the attention of other children who had witnessed the playful chaos. They had seen Leo, the shy boy who always had his nose in a book, step out of his shell, his face flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and a surprising flicker of pride.

A girl with bright red ribbons in her pigtails, whose name Leo now knew was Maya, was the first to approach him after the great joke book rescue. She had been watching Giggles with wide, amused eyes, and when Giggles had, with a theatrical flourish, presented Leo with a particularly funny-looking picture book as a thank-you gift, Maya had clapped her hands. "That was so funny!" she'd exclaimed, her voice like bubbling lemonade. "And you were so brave to help Giggles!"
