The air in the Laugh-a-Lot Library hummed with a special kind of quiet, the kind that wasn't empty but full of hushed anticipation. Leo, tucked into his favorite armchair by the window, felt it deep in his chest. He’d always loved libraries, the scent of old paper and ink a comforting balm to his shy heart. But this library, oh, this library was different. It had a sparkle, a shimmer, as if the very dust motes dancing in the sunbeams were made of pure joy.

He had watched, wide-eyed, as Giggles, a character who looked like a jester dipped in rainbow sherbet, had tumbled out of a book with a cascade of giggles. The ensuing chaos, the toppling tower of joke books, had been… well, it had been a mess. But then Leo had helped. He’d scurried around, his small hands carefully placing each book back onto the shelf, his heart thumping a nervous rhythm against his ribs. Giggles, no longer a whirlwind of mischief, had watched him with bright, curious eyes.

“You’re really good at that, you know,” Giggles had chirped, their voice like tiny bells. “Most people just stare when things go topsy-turvy.”
