Chapter 5
The Children's Council
Children gather, drawn by an unseen force. They share their visions, a silent communion of understanding. The fate of the world rests on their collective, pure perspective, a solemn council of the young.
The air, thick with a quiet hum that vibrated not in the ears but in the very bones, drew them. Little feet padded across forgotten pathways, through overgrown gardens, and into the hushed courtyards of ancient buildings. They came from everywhere, these children, their faces a mixture of awe and a dawning, solemn understanding. Elara, her patched jeans a familiar comfort against her legs, felt the pull most strongly. It was a gentle tug, like a thread woven into her very soul, leading her to a place she’d never seen but somehow knew intimately.
She found herself in a wide, sun-dappled clearing, the grass impossibly soft beneath her worn sneakers. Other children were already there, their numbers growing with each passing moment. There were boys and girls, their ages a blur of childhood, their eyes wide and reflecting the same inner light that had begun to bloom within Elara. Some sat cross-legged, others stood in small groups, their voices hushed whispers that seemed to merge with the rustling leaves. A profound silence settled over them, a silence that spoke volumes.
Kael was there, his brow furrowed with his usual questioning gaze, but even he seemed subdued. He found Elara near a gnarled oak tree, its branches reaching like ancient arms towards the sky. He didn’t need to ask. He saw it in her eyes, the same echo of visions he’d been wrestling with himself.
