Chapter 8
Kevin's Secret Path
While exploring a small crevice, Kevin discovers a narrow passage. His impulsive nature leads him deeper, revealing a potential, albeit risky, route.
Kevin, ever the explorer, had always been drawn to the shadowed nooks and crannies of their world. Even in the familiar scents of their old den, he’d be the one sniffing at the roots of ancient oaks, his small body wriggling into spaces that seemed too tight for even a mouse. Now, in this echoing expanse of glowing flora and strange, rustling movements, his curiosity burned brighter than ever. While Milly traced the shimmering veins of leaves with a tentative paw and Lilly carefully nudged a fallen, luminous mushroom, Kevin’s gaze was fixed on a fissure near the cavern floor.

His mother, Kelly, was busy reinforcing the sleeping den she’d so expertly dug for them, her powerful claws tearing at the packed earth, her brow furrowed with concentration. His sisters were clustered around her, offering quiet encouragement, their eyes wide with the shared enormity of their situation.
“Kevin, stay close,” Kelly’s voice, though weary, held its usual command. She didn't need to turn to know where his attention was likely to be.
